Wrestle Birmingham Results for August 12, 2005
Photos by Karl Stern and Will Wickwire
Wrestle Inc. presented another Wrestle Birmingham show last night from the Zamora Shrine Temple in Irondale, AL. First off, I saw the results posted on this show on Observer's site and I have to dispute the attendence figure. They claim 450, but the attendence was much closer to 1000. I think the Shrine holds 1200 capacity and they were only a couple hundred from full, both top and bottom level.
Mike Jackson defeated Johnny Slaughter in a good opening match. It was your typical Mike Jackson match (which is good) with Jackson getting in all his spots, but Slaughter could actually work too making a great match. Jackson was bragging on Slaughter's work backstage after the match and I agree.
A mad Mike Jackson slaps the mat
Adrian Street defeated Aeon Flexx. Street pretty much only works against Flexx these days and this one was for the "European title" and Street won. Street did all his comedy spots which still are a crowd stealer to this day. As always, he was accompanied by Miss Linda.
Brickhouse Brown defeated River D'Angelo. Brickhouse Brown, now 45 years old, is in incredible shape. Of course, he always was. Typical TV squash match.
Ranger Ross defeated Alan Martin. The once fuzzy headed "Ref" Alan Martin is now bald and goes under the Rock and Roll RPM gimmick. Martin was briefly a member of the Rock and Roll RPMs whose most famous members were the late Mike Davis and Tommy Lane. Martin has always been an under rated worker. Ranger Ross is in very good shape but cut a horrible promo after the match stating he was taking on "a known terrorist" Ali Bey or some such nonsense on their next show in October. This is the same Ranger Ross who spent time in prison for robbery. He was also a legit Army Ranger. They guy tried to get the crowd on his side, even claiming he was from Birmingham (I thought he was from Atlanta but I could be wrong). It was every bit as awful as you'll read on other sites. Surely Wrestle Birmingham isn't going to go through with this.
Dennis Condrey defeated Lee Thomas in a loser leave town match. Condrey is getting in better shape and worked a good match. Thomas is an area guy who has been around for a while. They both call themselves 'Loverboy' and had been feuding recently. After the match Condrey and Roy Lee Welch got into it setting up Roy Lee Welch verses Condrey at the October show.

McNasty defeated Brickhouse Brown in a strecher match. This was easily the match of the night and stole the show. McNasty, a local, came into his own here and Brickhouse, who had already worked once, was excellent. Go out of your way to get this match when it airs on TV. A wild bloody brawl. Brown lost after being attacked from behind by Robert Fuller.
Brickhouse is strechered to the back
Bob & Brad & Scott Armstrong defeated Robert Fuller & Jimmy Golden & Elix Skipper. Your usual Armstrongs-Stud's Stable brawl. Bullet Bob must have left his gear somewhere else because he was wearing a full face mask and sweat pants. Brad Armstrong is probably in the best shape of his life. Seriously, read that again- Brad Armstrong is probably in the best shape of his life. One thing about it, those James boys stay in incredible shape. What can you say about Elix Skipper? The most under rated worker in the world today and I'll argue that point with anyone.
Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden
Raven defeated Road Dogg by DQ to keep the NWA World heavyweight title. Raven almost didn't make it due to traffic. I had planned on getting there a couple hours early and ended up barely making it in time myself, traffic was horrible and wrecks everywhere.
Other notes:
Pat Rose was backstage and was introduced to the crowd where he said he respected Scott Armstrong ending their long running on television feud. Here is Pat (left) with Dennis Condrey
Pat Rose and Brad By God I've been Working Out Armstrong
