Dan Masters' Plain Speaking:
It doesn't get much better than having the legendary "Bullet" Bob Armstrong spend his New Year's Day with you, and that's just what he did last night. Bob couldn't wait to get to Columbus and see what GCW is doing, and more importantly, he really wanted to be able to meet you - the fans. He told me to make sure I thanked all of you again for making him feel welcome and to wish you all a Happy New Year.
Glenn Gilberti and Johnny Swinger had called us a few weeks back saying they had decided to team up and wanted a shot at the Steele Brothers for the GCW Tag Team Title. Promoter Jerry Oates signed them to face the champions, but by the time the match came around there were new champs in John Bogie and "Prime Time" Elix Skipper. No matter who the New York Connection prepared for, they came out on top. After the match they said something about reminding the fans that the Yankees have always been better than the Braves, and they will be better than anything Georgia has to offer.
Scott Armstrong was also with us last night, and when things turned bad - make that Bad Company - his dad came out and helped clear the ring. In other matches, Christie Ricci kept her International Title away from Bad Company's Amy Young and A. J. Steele beat "Loverboy" Lee Thomas by disqualification when Thomas knocked the ref out by accident. We also got to see a great match between Sean "Shocker" Evans and the Wrestler that ended in a draw when time ran out. Both of them wanted five more minutes, and I know you did, too, but we will just have to see if we can get them to agree to a future match to decide a winner.
Does anyone remember David Young saying that everything is fine in Bad Company? He mentioned something about how soon the "source" will be revealed. What did he mean by that?
As a reminder, the winners of the GCW 2004 Awards - as voted on by you the fans - were as follows: Sonny Siaki - Most Hated, John Bogie - Most Popular, Best Tag Team - A. J. and Damien Steele, and Best Wrestler - Erik Watts. Jerry Oates has promised an announcement on the signing of the Dream Match within the next few weeks.
Siaki will be back next week to defend his GCW Heavyweight belt against Erik Watts. Before the match, all other wrestlers will be escorted from the building by a member of the Columbus Police Department. That should be interesting. Also, Sonny has insisted he be allowed to stand out in the lobby so everyone can get a photo with him. He said you all deserve a photo of him hanging on your walls at home. I'll probably use mine for dart practice.
Kee Wee will also be here to challenge Jason Cross for the US Junior Heavyweight Title. A tag team tournament will also be held to determine the first contenders for the NYC and their belts. Signed up for the tourney are the Steeles, John Bogie and Sean Evans, Jeff Lewis and Lee Thomas, and of course - Bad Company.
There's an interesting twist to that. Bad Company has entered David Young, the Grappler and the Wrestler, with a stipulation that any two of them can wrestle and does not have to be determined until match time. This reminds me of the original Freebirds concept and approach toward confusing fans and opponents. This should be very interesting indeed.
