Dan Masters' Plain Speaking:
All the champions came out of the last show unscathed, but not without scars. Sonny Siaki retained his GCW Heavyweight belt against “Prime Time” Elix Skipper, Jason Cross turned back the challenge of Jeff Lewis for the US Junior Heavyweight crown, and the Steele Brothers kept their GCW Tag Team Title out of the hands of Bull Buchanan and the Grappler.
Before the match between Siaki and Skipper, David Young came out to explain his actions from last week, declaring he wanted a shot at the title. Siaki answered his challenge by saying that when he finishes “Beetlejuice” (referring to Skipper), that he would more than welcome the challenge. About that time, Erik Watts and promoter Jerry Oates walked to the ring and Erik made sure that Siaki is a champion on borrowed time, and he will get it back very soon.
What happened after the bout is the big story – Young went into the ring to congratulate Siaki for the win. After the two shook hands, Young turned his back and was promptly attacked by Siaki. While Sonny stood over David saying the sneak attack wasn’t about friendship, but about payback, Watts and Oates charged the ring. Watts knocked both men out and left them lying lifeless before he and Oates returned to the dressing room. Watts and Oates will return this week to face Siaki and Bull Buchanan in a Grudge Match for Holiday Havoc.
In other Bad Company related matches, Young won a match earlier in the evening over Sean “Shocker” Evans. A. J. and Damien Steele retained the tag title by defeating Bull Buchanan and the Grappler. It is still anybody’s guess each week when the Grappler is billed as to which Grappler will actually show up for the match. There have been at least two that I know of so far. Amy Young will be on the Holiday Havoc card, so I assume it is safe to say Bad Company has decided to bring her into the fold as well.
The matches between John Bogie and “Loverboy” Lee Thomas get more exciting each week, and the both of them have become obsessed with doing away with the other so they can move on to focus on titles. It was decided after Thomas walked away from the ring and lost to Bogie by countout that this week they will meet in a Lumberjack Match, with the ring surrounded by other wrestlers to ensure no one gets out until someone wins. This should definitely be interesting to see.
The “Natural Born Thriller” Mike Sanders will be in Columbus this week to take on Jason Cross for his belt. Desire returns to take on the challenge of Amy Young.
It was good to see the Turnbuckle Titans in Columbus once again. We missed their ringside antics and shenanigans. They led the crowd in many chants last night, including calling Jeff Lewis “Liberace” and turning their backs when Siaki went by them at ringside. We hope to see you guys back again, as well as everyone else for Holiday Havoc.
There were many ballots turned in last night for the 2004 Awards, and some of them were very interesting. Thanks for all the feedback, and we look for more participation this week. Ballots are in the rear of the GCW Arena at the merchandising table.
Be sure to watch GCW on UPN 66 each Saturday morning at 10:30, and check the website often for upcoming news as there is always something exciting coming up in Columbus.
